Myself and Steven Darley have requested race numbers, so a couple of quickish Imprezas are up for this ;)

Hi Shakespeare here

Just found my original report written for Eurodragster June 2006:

CHP Ashes Report
The inaugural running of the CHP Ashes, a one-shot shootout featuring racers and magazine readers from both the Jap Racer (Japanese Performance) and the Outlaw Flat Four (Ultra VW) Series, took place at a sun drenched Shakespeare County Raceway last weekend. It proved most successful for the air-cooled boys, writes SCR Press Officer Jerry Cookson.

"With each of the twelve entrants given a chance of securing one point to prove their worth to their chosen magazine title, top draw from the Jap Racers Mark Biggers and his ten second Nissan Skyline GTR met his match against the '70 VW Cabrio of Richie Webb. Winning the duel on a quicker reaction time, Webb's wheelstanding rag top blasted past the GTR in 10.224 to 11.618. The score was evened up after Guy Chamberlain, owner of Europe's quickest FWD Honda Civic Turbo (11.679/124.48) took out the '65 Beetle of Martin Greaves.

"In the remaining four shootouts, there were wins for Dave Dinning's Wolfsburg Performance Services '62 Beetle (back from a grass cutting exercise the day before), the pocket rocket Fiat 600 of Pete Englezos, Lee Maynard's twelve second Renault Dauphine and the ex-Jack Sachette Fiat X19 belonging to Ian Clark.

On the losing side was Richard Batty's Mitsubishi F20, Tim White's twelve second Mazda RX7, the Team Tomlinson/Farrer Skyline and Bob Dha's Scooby Impreza turbo. With chants of "five-one" echoing from the stands I wouldn't mind betting that a similar challenge will have been issued to address the balance!"

This looks like reaction times need some practice and the 60ft times are critical.

As you will be matching similar times cars it should be close at the finish if the vw boys are not to far in front at the start.
They also have the advantage of running races against each out at there regular meeting and will not suffer so much with nerves :?

Let hope we can address the last challenge and bring the Ashes to PSDS :)

Holding your nerve at the lights takes some doing, i prefer to stage first.

When i'm second to stage the tree seems to go much quicker

I think next saturday may be a good time to practice my reactions, i'm thinking its got to be below 0.5 to stand a chance, then hope i go through the gears ok

Miss one gear and its over and a big 'L' at least if i get a good run and i loose its the cars fault

Beauty of the new setup in the banana i drive, is i can stage on the handbrake, so get to prestage, hold handbrake, floor it to activate launch control, creep a tad on handbrake to 2nd stage, and go go go!

Last time i tried that, i did a 1.5 60ft on R888's and had a reaction time of 0.6.

I fitted a new set of MT drag radials this afternoon, so i should be doing 1.6/60ft times.

A top end missfire i have been suffering from was solved at the last meeting when my tuner turned up on the sunday afternoon.

The only problem was the track was busy and i had to leave early, so i only managed 1 run to check it was sorted :(

I've planned on going over to Shakey Friday night so i should get on the track bright and early Saturday morning before it gets busy and weather permitting
