On June 11th 2006 at Shakespeare County Raceway the first and only CHP Ashes took place between a group of Jap Racer drivers representing Japanese Performance magazine to a challenge against the Outlaw Flat Four racers representing Ultra VW magazine as both publications come under the same publishing arm at CHP hence the CHP Ashes.

Well, as we’re very nearly at season’s end, and it’s long over due, another challenge has been issued. Same groups of racers (Outlaw Flat Four v PSDS), same piece of real estate but this time to be fought out at this year’s Halloween Bonfire Burn-Up on Sunday 1st November where, how can I put it, a little bit of balance from the Jap side needs to be readdressed. In other words what I’m saying is the VWs won nearly every race from the 10 staged.

Editors (Chris Rees & Paul Knight) both agree that this is now the ideal time to have some fun while at the same time rage war on the drag strip. It’s a bit like the real Ashes fought for that tiny little egg cup in some tournament they call Cricket. But ours is faster, quicker contested by drivers with bigger balls!

Around Sunday lunch time we’ll pit 10 of the quickest Outlaws against 10 from the PSDS in a heads up race to the finish. The matches will be evenly selected on the morning’s previous times and may the best team win.

A web generated flyer is being produced and both publications will run a report/feature on the day. So who’s up for a spot of all out old fashioned end of season drag racing! Register your interest here…

In the meantime I’ll try and find some photos from the first CHP Ashes.

What estimated times are the 'Outlaws ' running?

I may be interested in this, sounds like fun with a bit of a difference.

Thanks for the interest Gaz. Most of the Flat Fours run between 10.5s and 12.5s but what we'll do is pair the cars up equally so the both sides get an equal chance of taking the win. Take a look at the Outlaw Flat Four web site: http://www.offdrc.co.uk.

Nothing to stop them registering, all they need is a PSDS race number

Hi Shakespeare here.

Thanks for the interest and support guys. All we need is another 8 drivers/cars to match the Flat Fours 10 car entry list already nominated. I'll be sure to give it plenty of shouts next weekend. Also the ad will appear on the PSDS Notice board as well. Like Rob has said you don't need to be a PSDS regular. Just sign up for your SDS number. May the best team win. :)
